Julie Silverman Selected as ARL Leadership Fellow
The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) announced the 2018-2019 ARL Leadership Fellow cohort in November of 2017. Himmelfarb Library’s Julie Silverman was among the 30 individuals selected from an extremely competitive applicant pool. The ARL Leadership Fellows program is an executive leadership program that facilitates leadership development in future senior-level leaders within research libraries and archives. Julie’s fifteen-month fellowship begins in February.
As part of this program, ARL Leadership Fellows conduct a comprehensive 360-degree assessment, construct an individualized learning plan, and shadow a library director for multiple days. Additionally, fellows participate in numerous professional development programs including three week-long institutes hosted by sponsoring ARL institutions across the country, and attend online professional development sessions and semi-annual ARL meetings.
Julie has served as Himmelfarb Library’s Associate Director of Collections and Access Services since 2014 but has been part of the GW community as both a student and as an employee for more than twenty years. In her current role, Julie oversees Library Operations (serials, acquisitions, electronic resources, cataloging, and interlibrary loan) and Circulation aspects of the library. Himmelfarb is pleased to congratulate Julie on her acceptance into the ARL Leadership Fellows program!
