Borrow Books from Washington Research Libraries Through CLS

Borrow Books from Washington Research Libraries Through CLSThe new Health Information @ Himmelfarb allows Himmelfarb Library users to borrow print books and some media (such as DVDs) from nearby academic libraries for free.  This new service is called the Consortium Loan Service, and can be accessed by searching ‘Articles + GW & Consortium Catalog’ to retrieve items owned by other consortium libraries.

George Mason University

The George Washington University

Georgetown University

Howard University

Marymount University

The University of the District of Columbia

For items available for Consortium Loan Service borrowing, you’ll see a link to the Consortium Loan Service (CLS) form when signed into Health Information @ Himmelfarb. It appears if a WRLC library has the item and Himmelfarb either doesn’t own it or all copies are unavailable. Himmelfarb Library users should continue to borrow items owned by GW’s Gelman or Burns Law Library from those libraries directly.

Items requested through CLS take approximately 2-3 business days to be delivered to the Himmelfarb Library circulation desk. Users are notified that items are ready to be picked up via an email when the item is available.

Items can be delivered to the VSTC campus. Select Gelman Library as the Pickup at Institution on the CLS form and select Virginia Science and Technology Campus Library under the Pickup Location. Please allow 2-3 extra days for shipping. Distance ed students can request that CLS items be shipped to their home address. Select Himmelfarb as the Pickup at Institution and add the address to be shipped to in the Comments section of the form. Allow up to 2 weeks for home delivery.

Borrowers are responsible for returning books to Himmelfarb by the due date which is printed on the book sleeve. They can be renewed if eligible through My Loans under Library Account as shown below. Items borrowed through CLS can accrue overdue fines which must be paid to the institution that loaned them.

Books not owned by a WRLC library that are required for research, patient care, teaching, or coursework can continue to be requested via Himmelfarb’s Docs2Go service. Users should also request articles and Himmelfarb’s physical journals in offsite or onsite storage locations via Dosc2Go.
