Getting started with your research

You might think that once you have your assignment you can jump right into your research. Instead, we suggest that you first put some thought into your topic. This will help save frustration when conducting your research.

There are actually a number of steps involved in conducting research for your paper or assignment:

1. Choosing a research topic
2. Developing an answerable question
3. Deciding what resources to use
4. Finding the literature
5. Choosing quality data and information resources
6. Managing information overload

First, we will discuss choosing your research topic and the important issue of developing an answerable question.
